Gabi nodded and took the turn.
"I remember life ya know? Before Tony, when I wasn't anything special. I miss it."
"I sorta know the feeling," Max remarked quietly, looking out the window. Given what she was, she couldn't really say she knew what it was like to be normal, but for a while there, she'd had her anonymity, and now that the truth of her identity had been exposed to the world, she missed it.
Turning her gaze back on Gabriella, she studied the woman for a moment, her face illuminated in staccato flashes by the streetlights they were driving past, "How did you end up with Tony, anyway?" She gave a small shrug, then added, "Maybe it's just 'cause I know what a creep he is, but he doesn't exactly seem like a real good catch, y'know?"
Gabi swallowed and fixed her attention all the more firmly on the road, before speaking, her tone grim.
"It wasn't a choice, he wanted me and my little sister wanted him, he made it clear to me that if he didn't get what he wanted from me, he would take it from my sister instead, and break her in the proccess, taking the rest of my family along for the ride...so he got what he wanted."
"He's not gonna be in any position to be makin' demands much longer, I can tell you that," Max spoke with quiet resolve. She nodded to the intersection they were approaching, where Crash was situated, "Well girl, this is my stop, right here."
Gabi stopped the car, and handed Max a card with her 'phone number on it.
"He won't get a word from me about this."
Taking the card, Max slipped it into her purse.
"I know. Follow this road to the end, and turn right, it'll get you back to Zambalita," She opened the door, setting one foot on the ground, then turned back, touching Gabi's arm, compassion in her gaze, "Gabi - take care okay? And call me, if you need anything, even just to talk. Anytime."
With that, she stepped out of the car, closing the door behind her.
Gabi raised her hand in a wave, and drove off on the specified route, not much looking forward to her return to the club, but at least just this once, she was going to catch his mood for a reason.
