Alec walked through the back entrance of Crash, careful that no one saw him, nor detected his presence leaving the underground. Not an easy thing to do, but he had a promise to keep.
He was glad that she'd put off this Luca thing, and hoped that maybe this would give him a window to talk some sense into her. With White hanging around, it was a big risk...for them both.
Sneaking up behind the bar, he noticed a few familiar faces from Jam Pony. He repressed a sigh. Things had been so simple for him then.
"Lex," Alec said quietly from behind the bar, sure he was unseen.
Lex reacted quickly to Alec but her face remained impassive, a flicker of her bar wench smile, but no more, just another customer on a quiet Thursday night. "My name's Alice. Can I get you something?"
"Alice? I'm going to make a million jokes about that later. They can't hear me, just you. Superchick hearing remember. And don't draw any attention to me, I know those guys and they know what I am," Alec pointed to the table where the Jam Pony crew was.
"So come back here and talk to me for a second while I've got it," Alec said and retreated back.
Lex nodded. "One second" She walked away from him and spoke quietly to the guy in the back office who nodded, raising to take her place. She moved out from the bar and headed toward Alec. "'Sup?"
"We had a date. You bailed and now I'm having self esteem issues," Alec joked and kissed her in more than a casual greeting.
Repressed desires were flooding him all of the sudden. Maybe it was the seriousness of the situation, or his final decision to stop trying to keep away and the longing he'd tried to stop were starting to filter through.
Pulling back a bit breathless, he said with a charming half smile, "So how've you been?"
Lex smiled at him, and held back a laugh. "I could never imagine that you would have self esteem issues...and I did not bail, it just didn't happen and I didn't want you to go by the apartment and me not be there. It's very cute that you were worried though, and I'm fine, I'll be happier when things are done." She grinned and kissed him softly. "I'm pretty good right now though! And why would Alice cause you to make fun of me, Slick?"
"All the names in all of the world...and Alice it is?" Alec chuckled.
Alec let is subside, then pushed a stray lock of Lex's now brown hair away from her face, looking indignant.
"Who says I worried? Now had I not gotten the message I would have worried. But if you thought you could sneak out of seeing me, you have yet to learn how determined I am when I," He moved closer to her, too close, and whispered, "want something."
"Hmmm" Lex leaned away from him "Well, we'll just have to see how determined you are won't we." Her tone was low, teasing "And if I wanted to sneak out of seeing you, why would I tell you where I was?"
"The sadist in you. You had me thinking you were throwing yourself to the lions all day, only to change the plan, but tell me you were at work where you only consort with people buying drinks. Sorry Lex," Alec stepped to kiss her again, "I'm dedicated."
Just as he leaned in, a sound make him turn his head, but grin. "Unless you want to be caught playing when you should be working, maybe we ought to pick this up another time. You hear that?"
Lex grimaced "That means the new guy has just messed up and I gotta go back to work, much as I would prefer not to, you staying? Jondy should be here soon...and I'm 'throwing myself to the lions' tomorrow, so you can worry again then, which will still be cute." She grinned at him, and walked away, heading back toward the bar.
"Oh come on, I don't worry. Not that bad anyway. Just don't die," Alec ordered. He glanced out into the main area again and saw that anyone who could identify him had left. Good. He walked out and slid around to his barstool. The one that had kind of been his. Before. Deciding not to sit there though, he hid a bit away in case someone should stop by. "So Alice, let's test your skills at making a scotch."
"Straight up or on the rocks?" Lex quirked an eyebrow at him, a smile playing on the corner of her lips.
"Not for me gorgeous. That guy down there," Alec nodded to the new patron at the end of the bar, "I have to get back to..work. I'll be back at around three? I'll meet you here. Easier than breaking into your apartment," He smirked.
"But just because I'm going home with you doesn't mean I'm easy. I'm easy as a result of being this good looking," Alec chided playfully.
"Who said you were coming home with me?" Lex challenged laughingly. She turned to walk to the new customer calling back over her shoulder "Don't work to hard, we wouldn't want you to tire yourself out now would we?" |
