"Goddamn kids," The nightwatchman muttered to himself, unhurriedly rising from his seat, "Guess I should go deal with them before Kujo rips 'em to shreds..."
upholstering his gun, he opened the door and went out into the lot, gravel crunching under his feet.
Sliding the window up, Max slipped into the office. Noticing the key rack was numbered, she started looking around, finding a ledger moments later.
Looking up the bike, Max grabbed its key from hook 17, then, smirking to herself, crouched by the safe, and put her ear to the door so she could hear the lock tumblers clicking into place as she worked the combination.
Opening the safe, her grin widened as she pulled out a few bundles of cash, slipping them into the inside pockets of her vest.
Hearing a series of gunshots, she gave a start. Shutting the safe door, she quickly climbed back out the back window, hoping Jondy was okay.
Max didn't have to worry, the gunshots were just to scare off whoever had been breaking the windows. Before the watchman had come out, she had tossed away the stick and hidden underneath a particularly big truck. The watchman had yelled out warnings, then called out for his dog, before muttering something about missing the best part of whatever he'd been watching.
She made sure he had gone back inside before slipping out of her hiding place and heading back to where the bikes were, posing by the bike that was soon to be hers. She grinned at Max when she saw her approach. "Got my keys?"
"Sure do," Max smiled at her sister, relief showing in her eyes. She held up the keys, offering them to Jondy, "C'mon little sister, let's blaze."
Jondy grinned, holding her hands out and catching the keys when Max tossed them to her. She ran her hand over the machine, smiling, before looking back up at her sister.
"You got your lock picks?"
"Mmhmmm," Max led the way to the side gate, taking a circuitous route to avoid the night watchman's building.
Crouching, Max went to work on the padlock, the lock popping open seconds later. Sliding the bolt, Max opened the chainlink gate so Jondy could wheel her new bike out of the lot.
Shutting and bolting the gate again behind them, Max snapped the padlock back into place before heading to her own bike and climbing on.
Gunning her engine, Max grinned at her sister, "So let's see how your new toy runs..."
Jondy had climbed on and put her keys in the ignition by the time Max turned around and grinned at her. She grinned back and turned the key, a thrill running through her as the engine roared to life.
She rode it a bit til she was even with Max. "Feels pretty good so far."
"Don't it though?" Max called out over the roar of engine and wind, grinning back at her sister, happy that she was enjoying her new motorcycle.
Heading back the way they'd come probably wasn't the best idea. Besides, she hadn't spend much time with her baby sister lately, and she had some time to kill before she had to get TC for the day.
Holding up her hand she signaled her sister, Sector 5?
Jondy nodded affirmatively and made the turn that headed to Sector 5, grinning as she pulled a little ahead of her big sister.
Chuckling, Max let Jondy lead for a while, before speeding up to match her, then overtaking with a smirk as they approached the sector point.
Joining the queue, Max dug her wallet out of her pocket, flipping it open to display her sector pass.
The female sector cop scrutinized the Max and her forged ID long and hard before giving a terse nod, "Show me the back of you neck, please."
Max leaned forward, letting her hair fall around her face. She winced when the female officer ran a finger firmly against the still sensitive skin on the back of her neck, glad the curtain of her hair had hidden her reaction from sight.
Evidently satisfied that Max wasn't hiding a barcode under a layer of make-up, the officer stepped back, "You may proceed ma'am."
"Thanks officer, you have a good day," Max smiled at the woman cheerily, then continued to the other side of the checkpoint, idling as waited for her sister to pass through the checkpoint.
Jondy went through the same procedure, gathering up her blonde mane and holding it at the back of her skull in a makeshift bun. She gritted her teeth but managed not to wince when the female officer went through the same procedure with her. Once she was done, Jondy smiled cheerfully at the woman and caught up to Max.
"Race ya to your crib!" She stepped on the gas, smirking at her sister over her shoulder as she put on a burst of speed.
"Meet you there!" Jondy grinned, gunning her own engine and pulling ahead of Max. Despite gaining a little bit of speed ahead of Max, the sisters were pretty evenly matched when it came to speed and one would pull slightly ahead.
Finally, Jondy pulled ahead of Max just before a truck pulled out and Max had to stop for a minute. Grinning, she sped up, gunning it until she got to her place.
She pulled to a stop and turned off her bike before hopping off of it, jumping up and down with her fists held in the air as Max pulled up a few minutes after. "Ha! I totally won!"
Laughing at Jondy's antics, Max pulled up beside her sister, "Huh, maybe red really does go faster," She cut the engine, shaking her head with a smirk, "Or maybe you just got lucky with that truck."
She climbed off the back of her bike and walked it inside the building, heading to the service elevator, and pressing the button to call it down. Opening the cage, she waved her sister ahead of her, "We'll have to take them up one at a time. As the winner, you get to make the coffee."
"Fair deal," Jondy replied, still grinning as she wheeled her new baby into the lift and took it up to her floor. Once upstairs, she wheeled it down the hallway before coming to the door of her and Original Cindy's apartment, then paused to unlock it and wheeled it in, parking it in the center of the room, where the kitchen met the living room.
Once it was settled, she shrugged off her jacket, kicked her heels off into her bedroom, and then heading into the kitchen to start up the coffee.
Following her sister up to the fourth floor, Max started to wheel her bike out of the elevator, but ducked back inside when she saw one of her old neighbors in the corridor. Waiting until she heard his door close, Max exited the lift and wheeled her Ninja down the hall to Jondy and OC's apartment and let herself inside.
She put her bike not far from Jondy's and stood back to admire the sleek machines side-by-side, then grinned at her sister, "Not bad, not bad at all."
She kept her voice low so as not to disturb OC.
Jondy smiled and mouthed "thank you" to Max before handing her a cup of coffee and gestured to the cream and sugar and such so Max could prepare it how she wanted. She'd already prepared her own and was blowing on it to cool it, then nodded in the direction of her bedroom before signaling "bedroom?" to her sister.
Nodding, Max went into Jondy's room, nudging off her ankle boots before sitting cross-legged on the bed.
"No more hitchin'" Max grinned, then took a sip of her coffee, "So how've ya been, anyway?"
"No, and no more trying to steal your bike when you're not lookin', either," Jondy said, winking at Max to let her know she wasn't serious. She took a sip.
"I've been good. Pulse took Scout and I out shopping for the rave mission."
Max smirked and shook her head at Jondy's joke, then took another sip of her coffee before setting it down on the bedside table to cool a little.
"Yeah? How'd that go?"
"It went pretty well. Had some fun in the dressing room, then went to see a movie and got kicked out, then went out to eat. It was fun." Jondy grinned mischievously before taking another generous sip of coffee.
"I don't even wanna know why you got kicked out of the movie, do I?" Max arched an eyebrow at her sister, an teasing smirk curving her lips, "So did you actually end up gettin' anything to wear for the rave, or did you just 'have fun' in the dressing room?"
"What?," Jondy said, feigning innocence. "We got kicked out because we didn't have a ticket! Gosh, Max, such a mind you have!"
She set aside her cup of coffee on the bedside table and went to her closet to take out the bag with the items they'd purchased at the store, taking them out to show her. "This dress, and these heels. And my hair's gonna be streaked pink."
She was excited about that, she hadn't done pink in a while.
"Uh-huh," Max agreed with a mocking smirk, "So by 'fun in the dressing room' you meant you were playing charades?"
"Cute," She took one of the boots, turning it over in her hands, "Very sci-fi. You sure these boots are gonna be practical, sistergirl? You're meant to be kickin' ass, not fallin' on it, s'all I'm sayin'."
"No," Jondy said cheerfully as she set the dress aside.
"And please, I've been wearing heels since I was thirteen. These'll be a cakewalk."
"Anything to gain a few extra inches, hey shorty?" Max smirked teasingly, and leaned back against the pile of pillows so Jondy couldn't get one to hit her with.
She picked up her mug of coffee, taking a sip, "So he took you out for dinner and a movie, huh?"
She'd already heard all about Pulse and Jondy's exploits in the dressing room from Scout, who'd come back to TC straight after the shopping trip.
